I didn't bring any gloves or shin guards (too bulky for the suitcase this trip). So, I used this trip as an opportunity to finally start doing some grappling (i.e., BJJ).
The No-Gi classes with Coach Lucas were amazing and really built a foundational understanding for me. I even did a private training lesson to over various self-defense scenarios, since I'm not currently training for any fights.
I also attended a kickboxing class, which happened to be on sparring day! This was a treat for me, since I had been sparring regularly for the past few months in ATX. The sparring is light and technical, which is all I'm interested in (again, since I'm not currently training for any fights).
Since I wanted to focus on grappling this trip, I decided to also do some Thai Clinch Training with Coach Danny. Not only has Coach Danny given me a strong foundation for Thai clinch fighting, I have now decided that I want to specifically focus on clinch fighting when I get back to Austin!
I did 4 private lessons with Coach Danny. The first session was focused on clinching, the second on escaping, the third in knee attacks from the clinch and the fourth/final session was putting it all together by sparring with the Coach!
Naturally, it takes months to years to become proficient at any discipline. This was the foundation I need for grappling and clinch fighting!
Since, I currently reside in TX and only come to Rochester a few times a year, I asked for a 10 class membership. So, whenever I'm in Rochester, I have a gym to train at!
Thank you Rochester Top Team! 🙏
PS: After clinch sparring with the Coach, I decided to treat myself to a Garbage Plate! 🙌

The trainers work incredibly hard to help you succeed—they’re dedicated, knowledgeable, and always focused on safety. The gym is clean, welcoming, and has a great atmosphere for learning and pushing yourself. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, this place makes you feel like you belong. They also have spacious private locker rooms and bathrooms that are always well-maintained

Beautiful facility!
The owner, Danny, is one of the most welcoming and nicest guys I’ve met. He gave me a walk-through of the entire gym on day 1 and spent a lot of time talking to me before and after class to answer all my questions.
He is also a super high-level and well-rounded fighter, as is the rest of his team.

Always a welcoming fun learning experience. Classes make me feel accomplished and excited to return.

Coach Danny made it really fun and informative for both of my boys first time trying kickboxing. Danny was very positive, enthusiastic, supportive, knowledgeable, and patient with the kids.

I had a private with the owner, Danny. He is an accomplished grappler and I had a very informative session. I highly recommend this gym in the area, it is full of killers.
